Immigrants Approved for Canada PR Can Travel to Canada

Study

Yesterday morning, Canada took a positive step forward in reducing current travel restrictions that were in place to help stop the spread of COVID-19. As we expect more travel restriction changes in the near future, there is some good news for COPR holders!

What is COPR?

COPR holders are simply individuals who have been invited to immigrate to Canada to become permanent residents. What makes them a COPR holder is that they have received their Confirmation of Permanent Residence which many recieve after being accepted through Express Entry!

COPR Holders Now Open To Canadian Travel

As stated by the Canadian government, as of June 21st, those who have a valid COPR are open to travel to Canada. Since COVID-19 shutdowns started in March 2020, nearly 23,000 individuals were stopped from making the move to start their new life. Before June 21st, only those who held a valid COPR issued on or before March 18, 2020, were exempt from Canada’s COVID-19 travel restrictions. Those who got their COPR after March 18, 2020, could only come to Canada if they met one of Canada’s other travel exemptions or were a resident of the US. Officials also announced that those fully vaccinated will be exempt from Canada’s quarantine requirement. Otherwise, travelers may need to follow Canada’s current travel restrictions and possible quarantine for 14-days.

Expired COPR?

The government specifically noted that all individuals with an expired COPR should NOT try to travel as the IRCC is currently working on getting those expired COPR holders re-issued. Because COPRs are only valid for 1 year, many individuals are having to deal with expired confirmations. If this is you, information on when and how to obtain a new COPR will be posted shortly on IRCC’s website.
