Welders also need knowledge in reading and interpreing diagrams, sketches, and blueprints to determine operations.

Canadian Welder Requirements

The requirements, training, and education needed to be a welder in Canada vary depending on where you will be settling in Canada. In most cases, you will need:

  • 3-year apprenticeship program OR over 3 years of experience
  • Trade certification (this is required in Alberta)
  • Red Seal endorsement (obtained after completing the interprovincial Red Seal exam)
