The September 30 draw required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 471 points, a point down on the previous all-program draw.
This draw, and the immediately previous draws on September 16 and September 2, are jointly the second-largest Express Entry draws of all time.
During September, Canada has issued 12,600 ITAs, an all-time record for a calendar month.
By issuing such a large number of ITAs in the midst of the coronavirus crisis, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), is sending a clear message regarding Canada’s commitment to immigration.
September has seen IRCC move away from the policy of conducting program-specific draws aims at either Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) or Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates. It has returned to its pre-coronavirus strategy of conducting all-program draws every two weeks.
Canada has now issued 78,350 ITAs so far in 2020, after issuing a total of 85,300 in 2019. The record for annual Express Entry ITAs was set in 2018 at 89,800. Canada is on target to break this record in 2020.
Canada’s high-skilled immigration admission target for 2020 is 85,800, up from 81,400 in 2019. However, it is likely that permanent resident admissions will be affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
The latest draw saw the tie-breaking rule implemented on March 2, 2020 at 8.47am EST. If more than one candidate had the minimum CRS score, only those who submitted their Express Entry profiles before this date and time received invitations.
What is Express Entry?
Express Entry is an immigration system implemented by Canadian immigration authorities (IRCC) on January 1, 2015 which manages skilled worker applications under Federal Economic programs. This includes the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program the Canada Experience Class and parts of the Provincial Nomination Programs.
Stakeholders expect to see near 30 draws and more than 80,000 invitations issued in 2020, with a majority of draws featuring CRS scores around 470 to enable Canadian immigration authorities to meet targeted annual immigration levels for 2020.
