Are TRVs (Temporary Resident Visas) Still Being Processed?

Study

While Canada has imposed travel restrictions, candidates are still welcome to submit temporary residence (visitor visa) applications.

The global spread of COVID-19 has led to the introduction of new immigration measures affecting foreign nationals, particularly temporary foreign workers, their families and international students.  Despite these recent developments, IRCC has announced a significant number of exemptions and has repeatedly stated that it will continue to process applications submitted under its various immigration programs.

Canada is also being more flexible in processing applications by providing candidates with more time to obtain and submit their documentation in the idea that candidates may be affected by COVID-19 disruptions.

Workers, students, and visitors, who qualify for an exemption to travel restrictions, are being asked to apply online.

Visitor Visa Renewal During Coronavirus

Compared to students and workers, visitors have the least amount of time to apply for extensions since they are generally granted a stay in Canada for a maximum of six months at a time.

The reason for wanting to lengthen their stay in Canada must be clearly stated when a visitor is submitting an extension request. The federal government is cautious of people trying to live in Canada permanently on a TRV. The responsibility is on the applicant to justify the extension and ensure that they will return home at the end of their stay in Canada.
